Mental map- Communicating the directions to the person.
Map projections-Any method used to show the earth's round surface on a flat map is called a map
projection.
Distortion-when a globe is transferred onto a flat map, a serious problem known as distortion occurs.
When mapmakers are making a flat map, they try to avoid or reduce distorting four features of a globe: Area,shape,distance,direction
Cylindrical Projections- are used by most world maps
Mercator's Projection- The first important cylindrical projection, all lines of latitude and longitude look straight on this map.
Goode's Interrupted Projection- This map is "interrupted" with gaps and cuts.
Robinson's Projection- Is the most popular map for text books which combines all the best elements from other projections.
